Biographical Information[edit]

Jordan Gerk pitched in the minor leagues and for Team Canada.

Gerk was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 16th round of the 1997 Amateur Draft out of high school, but he didn't sign. The Detroit Tigers then took him in the 41st round of the 2000 Amateur Draft, and he was 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA for the Oneonta Tigers in his first season. Gerk had a 2.25 ERA in 4 games in Oneonta in 2001, and his ERA was 1.86 in 10 games there in 2002. He also pitched 8 games with a 4.30 ERA for the West Michigan Whitecaps, and his ERA was 4.96 in 8 appearances for the Lakeland Tigers. Gerk had a 2-5 record with 2 saves and a 3.07 ERA in 55 relief outings in 2003, trailing only Ian Ostlund in appearances by a Tigers farmhand. He was two games pitched behind Midwest League leader Jason Wylie.

The Chicago Cubs picked him in the AAA portion of the 2003 Rule V Draft. He was 5-1 with a 4.46 ERA for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in 2004, and his ERA was 4.11 in 18 games for the Daytona Cubs. Gerk also pitched 44 innings for the AAA Iowa Cubs in '04 season, and he was 4-4 with a 3.74 ERA in 55 appearances in Daytona. He was 5th in the Cubs chain in games pitched and tied Milton Tavarez for 6th in the Florida State League. He represented Canada in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, giving up two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Overall, Gerk was 15-16 with a 3.81 ERA, struck out 255 and pitched 302 2/3 innings in 6 seasons in the minor leagues.
