Biographical Information

The son of former Atlanta Braves General Manager John Schuerholz, Jonathan Schuerholz was drafted in the 37th round of the 1999 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves out of high school. Choosing to attend college, he was then drafted in the 8th round of the 2002 amateur draft by the Braves.

Jonathan began his professional career with the Danville Braves, hitting .237/.345/.290 and stealing 11 in 15 tries. His 29 errors led Appalachian League shortstops. He also went 1 for 6 with a triple for the Macon Braves

A shortstop in high school and college, Schuerholz was converted to 2nd base in his second pro year, with the Rome Braves. He batted .251/.356/.300 that year and stole 25 of 32. He moved up to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2004 (.207/.303/.274, 14 for 23 in SB), split the 2005 season between the AA Mississippi Braves (.278/.347/.371, 8 for 9 in SB in 86 games) and the AAA Richmond Braves (.175/.255/.203, 1 for 3 in SB in 44 contests), and spent 2006 with Richmond (.184/.254/.243 as the regular second baseman). Only Mike Hessman had a lower batting average among qualifiers in the 2006 International League season and he had 24 more homers than Jonathan.

Schuerholz joined the Braves' front office in October 2014 as Assistant Director of Player Development.
