Jonathan Parra became a major league umpire in 2024 when he worked a total of 85 games as a call-up umpire - the most by any umpire working his first games in the Show that year. He did not have to wait to be called up to the majors, as his first game was on March 29th - Opening Day in the majors that year.
He is from Venezuela and was the eight person from that country to umpire a major league game. His minor league career dates back to at least 2014, when he worked in the Gulf Coast League. In 2023, he was a crew chief in AAA, with his partners being Austin Jones, who also made his big league umpiring debut in 2024, and Jen Pawol, the first woman to umpire in AAA since Pam Postema 34 years earlier. In addition to working in Organized Baseball, he has been an umpire in the Venezuelan League, has worked in the Caribbean Series and has been an umpiring instructor in Venezuela.
