Austin Jones

Biographical Information[edit]

Austin Jones, who is from Charleston, SC, worked his first games as a major league umpire in 2024, with a total of 35 games as a call-up umpire.

He began his professional career as an umpire in the Gulf Coast League in 2014. He next worked in the 2015 Appalachian League, 2016 Midwest League and 2017-2018 Carolina League. He made it to AA with the 2019 Southern League. He worked the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In 2023, he was on a crew in AA alongside Jonathan Parra, who also made his major league umpiring debut in 2024, and Jen Pawol, the first woman umpire to reach AAA since Pam Postema 34 years earlier.

His twin brother, Tyler Jones, is also a professional umpire. The two worked one game together in the Gulf Coast League in 2014 and had a good chance of someday joining his brother in the major league umpire ranks as he was in AAA at the time of Austin's first big league game. The two were already umpiring youth games while still in high school.
