Biographical Information[edit]

Jon Stone played six seasons in the minors then became a coach.

Stone was picked as a draft-and-follow by the San Diego Padres in the 39th round of the 1998 amateur draft. After helping Sacramento City College win a second straight California State Junior College title, he signed in 1999. He hit .204/.297/.265 for the Idaho Falls Braves that year. In 2000, Jon bounced around as an organizational catcher, with either 12 or 13 games for the AZL Padres (4 for 30, 5 BB, 2 2B), Fort Wayne Wizards (6 for 31, 6 BB) and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (9 for 37, 3B, BB). As Fort Wayne's backup backstop in 2001, he hit .231/.318/.308 and only threw out 20% of opposing base-stealers.

Out of Organized Baseball, Jon moved on to the independent leagues. He batted .245/.329/.302 for the 2002 Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox. He split 2003 between the Evansville Otters (1 for 11, 3 BB, 2B) and Florence Freedom (.232/.324/.280 in 41 G). He wrapped up in 2004 with Florence, going just 6 for 64 with a homer and three walks. Overall, Stone had a batting line of .210/.303/.268 in 222 minor league games.

Stone coached for the Modesto Nuts in 2007-2008, Casper Ghosts in 2009-2011, and Modesto again in 2012-2014.
