Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jon Gaston was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 20th round of the 2005 amateur draft but did not sign. After attending the University of Arizona, he was taken by the Houston Astros in the 7th round of the 2008 amateur draft.

Gaston was signed by scout Mark Ross and made his pro debut in 2008 with the Tri-City ValleyCats and hit .193 in 62 games with the club. With the Lancaster Jethawks in 2009, he hit .278 with 35 home runs and 100 RBI and was a California League All-Star. He spent the following two seasons with the Corpus Christi Hooks of the AA Texas League.
