Biographical Information[edit]
The brother of Bill Traffley, John Traffley was a semipro baseball player. When the Louisville Colonels came to Baltimore, MD in 1889 to face the Baltimore Orioles, a few Colonels refused to play when manager Mordecai Davidson said he would fine players $25 for each loss. Davidson quickly hired three members of Baltimore's reserve team to play for his team, with Traffley being one of them. The other two being Mike Gaule and Walter Fisher. John went 1 for 2 and was released after the striking players returned. He later died of a head injury from an accident in 1900.
