Biographical Information[edit]

John Thompson pitched in the minor leagues and the Taiwan Major League.

Thompson was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 45th round of the 1991 Amateur Draft, and he went 6-3 with a 3.69 ERA for the AZL Mariners in his first season. He recorded a 4.24 ERA in 17 games for the Bellingham Mariners in 1993, then he went 4-5 with a 3.62 ERA there in 1994. Thompson collected 19 saves with a 2-8 record in 38 games for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 1995, and he notched 14 saves with a 6.13 ERA in 50 games for the Lancaster JetHawks in 1996. His ERA was 4.62 in 45 games with 4 saves and a 3-2 record for the Memphis Chicks in 1997, and he also pitched 3 games in Lancaster.

The Washington native slumped to 3-9 with a 5.09 ERA in Lancaster in 1998, and he also went 3-4 with a 6.87 ERA for the Orlando Rays. He then signed with the Chicago White Sox, but he allowed 9 runs in 9 innings with the Winston-Salem Warthogs and he left the team. The Kansas City Royals picked him up, and Thompson went 2-1 with a 2.57 ERA for the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He was 1-4 with a 6.00 ERA for the Tri-City Posse in 2000, then he had a 2.54 ERA in 35 relief outings with the Sonoma County Crushers in 2001. Thompson allowed 13 runs in 7 2/3 innings in Sonoma in 2002, and he also pitched 21 games with a 4.82 ERA for the Solano Steelheads. The Kaoping Fala signed him in the middle of the season, but Thompson struggled as his ERA was 6.92 in 8 games in 2002 TML. He returned to USA and went 1-5 with a 3.42 ERA for the Alexandria Aces, then he announced his retirement.
