Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher John Poppert briefly reached AAA as a player.

Poppert was picked by the Montréal Expos in the 17th round of the 2004 amateur draft. He hit .219/.268/.325 that year for the Vermont Expos. In 2005, he batted .170/.249/.275 in 58 games between three different stops. The next year, John's batting line was .210/.313/.362 with a career-high 8 homers, 28 runs and 23 RBI for the Savannah Sand Gnats. He was the team's most-used backstop.

In 2007, Poppert batted .214/.261/.262 in 26 games for the Hagerstown Suns and was 3 for 12 with a triple for the GCL Nationals. He did not play in 2008. In 2009, he caught one game for the Syracuse Chiefs, went 0 for 1 at the plate and pitched one scoreless inning to end his playing career. He had batted .201/.277/.315 in 199 minor league games.

Poppert became a coach with the 2010-2011 GCL Nationals.
