Biographical Information[edit]
Big John Munce (also called "Jack") played seven games in the Union Association for the Wilmington Quicksteps in 1884. The team itself played 18 games total in the Association, joining the league late after having played successfully in the Eastern League for most of the year. Munce had also played for the Eastern League Wilmington team.
John had played amateur ball prior to 1884, and after 1884 played some minor league ball in 1885 and 1886. He was primarily an outfielder.
He is the only major leaguer through 2020 to have the last name Munce, although Max Muncy and Jake Munch come close.
