Biographical information

John "Tinker" Connelly was the head coach for Northeastern University from 1956, when he took over for Herbert Gallagher, to 1981. In 1966, he guided the Northeastern University baseball team to the College World Series. After leading his team to a .345 winning percentage in 1981, he was replaced by Charlie O'Malley.

Connelly compiled a 288-280-5 (or 6) record as head coach for Northeastern University.

He was the New England Coach of the Year in 1964 and he won the Jack Butterfield Award in 1984. He was elected to the Northeastern University Hall of Fame in 1975 and the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984. At one point he served as the President of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Prior to coaching for Northeastern University, he played football for them (All-New England Collegiate Quarterback) from 1949 to 1951, baseball (All-New England second baseman) for them from 1950 to 1952 and hockey (All-New England defenseman) for them from 1950 to 1952.
