Biographical Information

Johan Maya was a minor league player, manager and coach as well as a scout.

Maya signed with the Houston Astros originally and made his debut as a pro in the 1997 Venezuelan Summer League. After missing 1998 due to injury, he was 0 for 7 with a run for the 1998-1999 Leones del Caracas. He hit .239/.298/.326 as a backup infielder for the title-winning 1999 Martinsville Astros. He hit .255 in 22 games for Caracas in 1999-2000. In 2000, he was a backup infielder with the Michigan Battle Cats, batting .206/.333/.265. He ended his playing career with the 2000-2001 Leones, going 0 for 1.

He was a Venezuelan Summer League coach for the Houston Astros then scouted for them for two years. He coached for the 2011-2012 DSL Astros then became their manager in 2013. He then managed the DSL Astros Blue in 2014. He scouted for the Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks before dying of COVID-19 at age 40.
