In 1999 the Martinsville Astros replaced the Martinsville Phillies in the Appalachian League. The change of affiliation worked wonders as they won the league championship in their first year as an Astros farm team. In eleven years with the Philadelphia Phillies they never even managed a winning season. Five years later the team would relocate to Greeneville, TN and become the Greeneville Astros.
