Biographical Information

Johan Lopez pitched for 11 seasons in the minor leagues.

Lopez debuted in 1992 with the GCL Astros. He was 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 17 games as a 17-year-old. In 1993, Johan had a 5-4, 4.07 record for the DSL Astros. During 1994, he went 7-5 with a 4.81 ERA for the Auburn Astros. He was two wins shy of the New York-Penn League lead.

For the 1995 Kissimmee Cobras, the Venezuelan right-hander was 5-5 with a save and a 2.61 ERA. In '96, Lopez fell to 3-10 for Kissimmee but still had a 3.75 ERA. He spent 1997 with the Jackson Generals, going 6-8 with a save and a 4.39 ERA in his AA debut. He was on the New Orleans Zephyrs when they the Pacific Coast League title in 1998, posting a 7-2, 5.60 record in 45 games, primarily in relief.

Lopez went to the New York Mets chain in 1999, appearing with the Binghamton Mets (3 R in 2 IP) and the Norfolk Tides (3-5, Sv, 4.15). In 2000, the veteran hurler was 6-2 with 5 saves and a 4.15 ERA for the Oklahoma RedHawks, a Texas Rangers affiliate. Opponents hit only .214 against him. He remained with Oklahoma for 2001, allowing 4 runs in 7 2/3 IP and ending his US career.

Lopez went on to Mexico in 2002, going 1-1 with a 4.45 ERA for the Saraperos de Saltillo.

He is with Venezuela for the 2009 Baseball World Cup as the team's oldest pitcher; the only older player on the team is Lino Connell.
