Biographical Information[edit]

Joey Wagman reached AA in 2015.

Wagman hit .422 as a high school senior and had a 2.03 ERA. As a college freshman, he struggled at 1-2, 7.09. He improved to 4-3, 3.62 as a sophomore and 9-3, 2.33 as a junior. He was third in the Big West Conference in wins and ERA and made All-Conference as one of three starting pitchers alongside Andrew Thurman and Dylan Floro. Returning for his senior year, he was 13-3 with a 2.96 ERA. He led the Big West in wins (one ahead of Thomas Eshelman and Justin Garza) and strikeouts (103, 8 more than Garza). He joined Eshelman, Garza and Andrew Morales as the All-Conference starters. Garza won Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year. Wagman tied for 4th in NCAA Division I in wins. The Chicago White Sox took him in the 17th round of the 2013 amateur draft.

Making his pro debut with the Great Falls Voyagers, he was 1-0 with two saves, a 3.57 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 22 2/3 IP that summer. The White Sox still let him go and he was with the independent Rockford Aviators in 2014; he was 6-2 with a 3.05 ERA, .97 WHIP and 85 K in 76 2/3 IP. That was enough to interest the Oakland A's, who signed him and sent him to the Beloit Snappers, for whom he was 2-2 with a 5.13 ERA with 31 K to 7 BB in 26 1/3 innings.

In 2015, Wagman pitched for Beloit (8-4, Sv, 3.91), the Stockton Ports (0-2, 10 R in 6 2/3 IP) and Midland RockHounds (1-0, 1 R in 5 IP). He tied for 5th in the A's chain in wins. He walked only 20 in 101 1/3 innings for the year. He repeated with Stockton (4-6, 2 Sv, 3.67 in 33 G) and Midland (1-1, 6.38 in 4 G) in 2016. He then joined the Israeli national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but did not get into a game; Israel won a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
