Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Strain was on Team USA in the 1975 Pan American Games, winning the Silver Medal. He started out in the minors hitting .333 for the Great Falls Giants in 1976, and followed that up with a .338 batting average for the Fresno Giants in 1977. He hit around .300 for the Phoenix Giants in each of 1978 and 1979. In 1982 he hit .293 for the Iowa Cubs.
He managed for seven years in the Northwest League. He later scouted for the San Francisco Giants from 1990 to 2018, signing Sergio Romo.
Strain taught at Cherry Creek High School from 1983 to 2003 and coached the basketball team from 1986 to 2002.
In 2019 Strain became an assistant coach for Metropolitan State University of Denver, where his son Ryan Strain is the head coach.
