Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Haumacher played college ball at Old Dominion University and graduated with a degree in communications in 2011. Prior to Old Dominion, sources differ on whether Haumacher attended Guilford Technical Community College or Wofford College. After graduation, Haumacher pitched in the independent leagues for three seasons, though he did not pitch much in either 2012 or 2013.
Haumacher began his coaching career as the Raritan Valley Community College Golden Lions pitching coach in 2012. He spent four years as a rotational athlete specialist at the University of Southern California's well-known National Pitching Association where he worked with Tom House. In 2017 he left sunny California for the cooler climate of New England to serve as the pitching coach at Amherst College during the 2018 season. From there he traipsed westward to Utah to join Dixie State University as their pitching coach in 2019.
Among his travels, Haumacher also coached summer collegiate teams. According to his Dixie State bio, Haumacher managed the Orange County Surf of the Sunset Baseball League in the summers of 2015 and 2017. However, another source indicated that the team was founded in 2015 and played their inaugural season in 2016. In addition to managing, Haumacher was the pitching coach for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League in the summer of 2018.
In 2020, the Baltimore Orioles hired Haumacher to be the Aberdeen IronBirds pitching coach before COVID-19 caused the minor league season to be cancelled. He was then a pitching coach for the FCL Orioles Black in 2021 and Delmarva Shorebirds in 2022.
