Biographical Information

Jimmy Mathison was in the majors in 1902, playing third base pretty much every day for the Baltimore Orioles at the end of the season. The Orioles used many players at third that year, with Roger Bresnahan, who was primarily a catcher, getting 30 appearances to lead the group, barely beating out Jimmy's 28 appearances at the hot corner. He got his chance to play after manager John McGraw bolted the team late in the season to join the New York Giants, taking a number of players with him, including Bresnahan. Management scrambled to find warm bodies to fil the holes, providing Mathison with his opportunity to play. However, he was not retained when the team relocated to New York, NY to become the New York Highlanders in 1903.
