Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Wollscheid pitched professionally for four years.

Wollscheid was taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 35th round of the 1999 amateur draft. He was 3-5 with a 5.78 ERA for the Missoula Osprey that summer. He tied for 5th in the Pioneer League in hit batsmen (8), tied for 6th in wild pitched (11). He moved to the independent Ozark Mountain Ducks in 2000 and had a very good year at 14-5, 2.83 with 170 K in 172 IP. He was among the Texas-Louisiana League leaders in wins (tied for 4th with Landon Hessler and Yfrain Linares), ERA (2nd, .24 behind Linares), shutouts (3, 1st) and strikeouts (3rd behind Mike Smith and Linares). On May 21, he threw a 7-inning no-hitter against the Bayou Bullfrogs. He made the league All-Star team, joining Mike Leach, Linares, Toby McDermott and Smith as the pitchers picked. Linares won Pitcher of the Year.

With the Ozark club in 2001, he posted a 8-5, 3.16 record. He finished 9th in ERA, between Clint Smith and Mario Rodriguez. He reversed his record to 5-8 with a 3.72 ERA in 2002. He tied for 9th in the circuit (now renamed the Central Baseball League) in losses. He finished his career at 30-23, 3.53 in 79 games (70 starts). In 477 1/3 innings, he allowed 447 hits and 196 walks and struck out 406.
