Jim Wells has been a longtime college coach.
Wells was basketball and baseball coach at Loyola Prep High School from 1982-1986. In 1987-1989, he was a graduate assistant at LSU. Jim was 192-89 as head coach at Northwestern State University from 1990-1994 and was named Southland Conference Coach of the Year three times.
Wells became head coach at the University of Alabama in June 1994. He went 588-300 at Alabama from 1994-2009 to set a school record for wins. He took the school to the 1996 College World Series, 1997 College World Series and 1999 College World Series. He was named Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 1996 and 2002. He was named Baseball America Coach of the Year in 1997.
