Jim Garman
Jim Garman has umpired at numerous levels, including the Major Leagues.
In 1977, Jim graduated in the top tier of his class from the Bill Kinnamon School for Minor League Umpires while also earning his BA degree and teaching credential from California Lutheran University.
Jim umpired in the minor leagues from 1977-1981 reaching the Double AA Texas League. At that time, he began umpiring for the NCAA Division-I Regionals and worked every post season Regional tournament for 34 consecutive years. He was also selected to umpire the Super Regionals for fifteen consecutive years. He umpired the NCAA Division 1 College World Series in Omaha, NE eight times, and was selected as the Crew Chief four times. Jim umpired during the regular season in the PAC-12, Big West, Western Athletic Conference, and the Big 12.
Jim was also active in international baseball. He worked the World Championships in 1990 and several international tournaments as well as the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He was selected to work the Olympic Gold Medal Game behind home plate. When the major league umpires went on strike briefly in 1995, Jim finally got a chance at the big leagues and it started with umpiring Home Plate at Riverfront Stadium Cubs vs the Reds. He then went to Candlestick for the Marlins vs the Giants. He did three games there, all National League games. Afterwards, he returned to the college ranks to continue his career in umpiring.
Jim currently lives in Nashville, TN with his wife, Rose. He has two children, Allison who lives in Los Angeles, CA and Tyler who lives in Dallas, TX.
