Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Crawford's first plate appearance came four days after his debut for the Houston Astros. He struck a walk-off double in the 12th inning to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 10. That was the most recent time that a player's first plate appearance resulted in a walk-off extra base hit in extra innings. Crawford pitched parts of five seasons in the big leagues, finishing 15-28, 4.40 with 13 saves in 181 games. He had a 0.82 ERA in the 1970 Amateur World Series, helping Team USA win the Silver Medal; he tied Carlos Graciano for 8th in the event in ERA, though three US hurlers were better (Burt Hooton, Rich Troedson and Mike Caldwell).
