Biographical Information[edit]

Rich Troedson pitched for Team USA in the 1970 Amateur World Series. In Game 2 of the best-of-3 finals (Cuba won the opener), he started against Santiago Mederos; the USA fell, 5 to 3, to take the Silver Medal. He whiffed 38 in 24 innings but did not lead the tourney as teammate Burt Hooton had 44. His 0.38 ERA was 4th, trailing Hooton, Emilio Salgado and Manuel Hurtado.

He played two seasons for the San Diego Padres, who took him in the 1st round of the January 1972 amateur draft out of Santa Clara University. In 1973, he made the team out of spring training and appeared in 50 games, including 18 starts, to go 7-9, 4.25 with 1 save. The Padres lost over 100 games that season, but he was fourth on the staff in innings pitched with 152 1/3 and tied for fourth in wins with another rookie, Randy Jones. In 1974, he pitched just 15 games with an ERA of 8.68 to be sent down to the AAA Hawaii Islanders in mid-May. He never returned to the majors after that, ending his career in 1976 with one season in the Mexican League for the Sultanes de Monterrey.
