Biographical Information

Jim Cosman played briefly in the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs.

Originally signed by the Cardinals in 1962, Cosman debuted the following summer and reached the majors on the final day of the 1966 season. He made his debut on October 2nd in a start against the Cubs. Jim pitched a two-hit shutout for the W; the two hits were a second-inning single by Ron Santo and a ninth-inning single by Glenn Beckert. Cosman went 1-0 with a 3.16 ERA in 10 outings for St. Louis in 1967 but spent most of that year in the minors. He did not return to the majors in 1968, and after that season, he was dealt to the New York Mets for Jerry Buchek. After one year in the Mets system, he was selected by the Cubs in the 1969 Rule V Draft. He made one appearance for Chicago in 1970, a relief outing against the Atlanta Braves on April 30th. Pitching 2/3 of an inning, he gave up three earned runs, including a solo home run to Hank Aaron. He spent 1971, his final season, with the Indianapolis Indians.

Following baseball, Cosman worked in the waste business. He began as a driver in 1972 and retired as President of Republic Services. He died in 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
