Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Chatterton played four games for the Kansas City Cowboys of the Union Association in 1884, the circuit's only season. He was 19 and mostly played first base, although he also pitched 5 innings and played 6 innings in the outfield. The record shows he also played in 1887 for the Salem Fairies, hitting .379 in 7 games. He was a couple of years older than teammate Hugh Duffy, who hit .461 in 27 games. The SABR biography of Mike Flynn refers to a Jim Chatterton in 1891 as "the Dover manager, who was a former minor-league ballplayer". The BR database does not show any Jim Chatterton who played in the minors except for this Jim.
Chatterton appeared in a newspaper called The Lynn Daily Item in 1917, pitching some "miracle cure."
