Biographical Information[edit]
Converted to pitching in 1989, Jim Bullinger is one of five pitchers to homer on the first pitch he saw in a big league game, taking Rheal Cormier of the St. Louis Cardinals deep in relief of Shawn Boskie during a June 8, 1992 double dip at Busch Stadium. The feat ultimately earned Jim National League Player of the Week honors on June 14. Of course, he could do some things on the mound too, fashioning a 25 inning scoreless streak with the 1995 Cubs en route to a 12 win season. Relying on a curveball, Jim saw time in seven seasons, with a 34-41 record and 5.06 ERA plus 4 shutouts in 186 games. His brother, Kirk, made his MLB debut in August 1998, several months after Jim made his final appearance in the bigs with Seattle.
