Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Brideweser was a World War II veteran. He was signed for the New York Yankees by scout Bill Essick in 1949 after graduating from USC. He patrolled the infield in 329 games for the Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers from 1951 through 1957. Interestingly, he belted his only home run in his final season: a three-run shot off Boston Red Sox All-Star pitcher Frank Sullivan. He had a great eye at the plate, striking out only 12.4% of the time. Using similarity scores, he is most similar to 2000s utility man Angel Sanchez.

While at USC, Brideweser played in the 1948 College World Series against Yale, whose team included future president George H. W. Bush. Following his playing career, he managed the Lewiston Broncs in 1971. The team finished in 6th place in the Northwest League with a record of 28-51. He also taught and coached baseball at Saddleback College.

After his death from respiratory failure, his remains were cremated and scattered in the Pacific Ocean near Dana Point, CA.
