Jiangang Lu (known as Chengan Lu in Japan) was the first mainland Chinese baseball player to sign with a Nippon Pro Baseball team.

Lu pitched for China in the 1998 Asian Games as a teenager. He was 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA in the 1998 Baseball World Cup, allowing 13 hits and 5 walks in 6 2/3 IP. In 1999, he signed with the Chunichi Dragons, becoming the first Chinese player with a NPB organization. He spent three years at ni-gun but never made it to NPB. He went 2-2 with a 3.83 ERA in ni-gun with 40 walks in 51 2/3 IP.

Lu was with China for the 2002 Asian Games. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, the right-hander went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 12 innings. He cruised to victory over South Africa and pitched well in a loss to the South Korean national team. He stayed with Team China for the first Konami Cup. In the 2005 China Baseball League, Lu went 6-1 with a save and a 1.79 RA for the Tianjin Lions. He was 4th in the CBL in ERA.

Lu was China's ace in the 2006 Haarlem Baseball Week, going 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA. He shut down the rival Taiwan national team in a win and lost against the Netherlands. He also pitched for China in the 2006 Asian Games and Konami Cup but missed the 2006 World Baseball Classic.

In the 2007 Arizona Fall League, Lu went 0-2 with a 12.38 ERA, allowing 14 hits and 7 walks in 8 innings. He pitched in his third straight Konami Cup. He was with the Chinese entry for the 2008 Olympics, going 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA. He took a tough 1-0 loss against the South Korean national team and got China's only Olympic win in baseball when they upset the Taiwan national team.

Lu was one of China's stars in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He got the start against Taiwan and beat them for the second time in two years, allowing one run on 4 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
