Jesús Santiago Guerra Hernández

Biographical Information[edit]

Jesús Guerra pitched in Cuba for 13 seasons and was on the Cuban national team. His son Jesús Guerra Jr. later was a pitcher as well.

Jesús started 23 games for the Vegueros in 1972-1973, tying Orlando Figueredo for the Cuban Serie Nacional lead. In 1973-1974, he tossed four shutouts to tie Óscar Romero and Omar Carrero for the league lead; he also hit 12 batters, tying Carrero for the lead. He was 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA for Cuba in the 1979 Pan American Games to help Cuba win a Gold. In the 1980 Amateur World Series, he had a 1-0, 1.33 record as Cuba won another Gold. For his career in Cuba, he was 114-84 with a 2.36 ERA and 33 shutouts in 259 games over 13 seasons. As of 2010, he was one shutout shy of the Serie Nacional's career top 10 list. He managed Las Tunas to a 23-67 mark in 2001-2002, setting a team record for losses.
