Biographical Information

Outfielder Jeremias Pineda played in the minor leagues from 2011 to 2021. He was first signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. In his first season, he played for both the DSL Red Sox and the GCL Red Sox, batting .188/.299/.277 in 34 games. He did a whole lot better in his second season as he hit .421 in 36 games for the GCL Red Sox before being traded to the Minnesota Twins on August 5th in return for major leaguer Danny Valencia. He was assigned to the GCL Twins to finish the season and in 52 games between the two teams hit .365/.406/.469. He was named the MVP of the Gulf Coast League and also a league All-Star.

In his first full season in the Minnesota Twins system in 2013, Jeremias hit .239 in 69 games for the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League. Repeating the level in 2014, he broke his wrist in April and ended up being demoted to the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League when back healthy, and spending most of the year there. Between the two teams, he hit .224 in 73 games, and his great half season with the GCL Red Sox appeared more and more like an outlier in his career. Following the season, he played in the Dominican League for the first time, for the Gigantes del Cibao. Meanwhile, the Twins released him that December, and by the time the 2015 season started, he was in the Mexican League, with the Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz. He hit .285 in 111 games and was named a mid-season All-Star, but he had very little power, with just 15 extra-base hits and a slugging percentage of .339. Following the season, he stayed in Mexico, playing in the Mexican Pacific League for the Venados de Mazatlan. He hit quite well, batting .292 in 68 games with 50 runs scored and was part of the team that went unbeaten in the 2016 Caribbean Series to win the title.

His strong showing in Mexico got him another shot at affiliated baseball in 2016, this time in the Miami Marlins organization. He struggled in AA, batting .182 in 62 games for the Jacksonville Suns of the Southern League, but after being sent down one level, he hit .300 in 65 games for the Jupiter Hammerheads in the Florida State League. He had another good season for Mazatlan that winter, and started the 2017 season with Jacksonville but hit .229 in 65 games and was released, allowing him to return to Veracruz. There, he finished the season on a hot streak, hitting .343 in 25 games. At Mazatlan that winter, he hit .325 in 52 games, his lack of power being compensated by his ability to hit plenty of singles, and then score a lot of runs once on base. In 2018, he played just 15 games for the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos but hit .327 in that limited time. However, he batted just .230 for Mazatlan. In 2019, he hit .349 in 57 games for the Bravos de Leon in the summer and .277 in 67 games for Mazatlan, but the COVID-19 pandemic basically brought his career to an end. He could not play in 2020 due to the Mexican League being shut down, and returned to his home country, where he only managed to appear in three games as a pinch-runner for the Gigantes del Cibao in the 2020-21 winter ball season.
