Biographical Information[edit]

OF Jeisson Rosario was signed by the San Diego Padres as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic on July 2, 2016. He was still 16 at the time and began his pro career the next year with the AZL Padres 1, skipping the Dominican Summer League. He hit a very good .299/.404/.369 in 52 games there, scoring 31 runs. In 2018, he moved up to full-season ball with the Fort Wayne Wizards of the Midwest League, where he was one of the youngest players in the circuit. He more than held his own, hitting .271/.368/.353 with 66 walks and 79 runs in 117 games. He played in the Dominican League, with the Tigres del Licey that winter, but only appeared in 3 games as the circuit is known to favor seasoned veterans.

In 2019, Rosario was assigned to the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League. In a league known to favor power hitters, his style based on hitting singles and drawing walks did not play as well, as he fell to .242/.372/.314 in 120 games. He did score 67 runs as his team's primary centerfielder. He was a non-roster invitee to spring training by the Padres in 2020, and then was added to the team's 60-player pool when summer camp opened at the start of July, following the pause caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. That's where he still was when on August 30th, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox along with fellow prospect Hudson Potts in return for 1B Mitch Moreland.
