Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Jefry Marte was signed by International scouting director Ismael Cruz and scouts Juan Mercado and Marciano Alvarez for the New York Mets as a 16-year-old in 2007 for a reported $550,000 bonus. He began his pro career the following summer with the GCL Mets, hitting .325 in 44 games. Following the 2012 season, he was traded to the Oakland Athletics for Collin Cowgill. he then became a free agent following the 2014 season and signed with the Detroit Tigers.

He made his major league debut for the Tigers on July 5, 2015 after having been called up when 1B Miguel Cabrera was placed on the disabled list. He got his first two hits in his first start at first base on July 8th, with an RBI double in the 2nd inning followed by a homer in the 4th. Both hits came against J.A. Happ in a 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners. He played 33 games for Detroit, hitting .213 with 4 homers and 11 RBIs. He spent the bulk of the season in AAA with the Toledo Mud Hens, where he hit .275 with 25 doubles, 15 homers and 65 RBIs in 95 games.

On January 27, 2016, he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in return for minor league infielder Kody Eaves.
