Jeff Smulyan owned the Seattle Mariners from 1989 to 1992, purchasing the team from George Argyros. Smuylan sold the M's mid-season in 1992 to Hiroshi Yamauchi, who was president of the Nintendo Coorporation at the time. Nintendo of America now owns the team, represented by N.O.A. Chairman and C.E.O. Howard Lincoln.
Smulyan was vying to buy the Washington Nationals in 2005, but wasn't successful.
In 1981, he and his wife Janine (now divorced) were contestants on the game show Las Vegas Gambit.
