Biographical Information[edit]
George Argyros owned the Seattle Mariners from 1981 to 1989; he purchased the team from the team of Danny Kaye and Lester Smith. Argyros sold the M's to Jeff Smulyan.
Argyros built his fortune as a real estate developer in southern California. Later in his life, he was involved in the U.S. government serving on the board of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation under President George H. W. Bush. He was later Ambassador to Spain and Andorra under President George W. Bush.
