Biographical Information[edit]
Jeff Manto was signed as a 14th round pick in the 1985 amateur draft by the California Angels and scout Al Goldis.
After his playing career ended, Manto was a coach of the Lakewood BlueClaws in the Philadelphia Phillies organization in 2001 and spent the next season as the club's skipper. He joined the Pittsburgh Pirates as a minor league hitting instructor after the 2002 season and was named the team's hitting coach in 2005. In 2008, Manto became the minor league hitting coordinator for the Chicago White Sox and in 2012 was appointed hitting coach with the big league team by new manager Robin Ventura. He kept the position until the end of the 2013 season.
Manto managed the Trenton Thunder in 2021 and was scheduled to return in 2022. He is also an assistant coach at Penn State Abington in 2022. Manto's hitting coach for Trenton in 2022 will be David Miller, head coach at Penn State Abington.
