Biographical information[edit]

Jeff Alfano is a former minor league catcher who played from 1996 to 2002 in the Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants farm systems.

Drafted by the Brewers in the fourth round of the 1995 amateur draft, Alfano began his professional career the next year. He spent 1996 with the Ogden Raptors, hitting .283 with four home runs and 29 RBI in 45 games.

He hit .307 with nine home runs, 12 stolen bases and 45 RBI in 83 games in 1997, splitting the year between two teams: the Raptors, with whom he hit .360 and seven home runs, and the Beloit Snappers, with whom he hit only .231 with two home runs.

He spent all of 1998 with the Stockton Ports, hitting only .240 with four home runs in 113 games. In 1999, he struggled again, hitting only .247 with five home runs in 83 games for the Huntsville Stars. He played in only 22 games in 2000, all for the Mudville Nine, batting .232 with one home run.

In 2001, he wound up in the Giants system and tried his hand at some pitching. He spent most of the year with the San Jose Giants (56 games), though he did play one game with the Shreveport Swamp Dragons. He batted only .213 with six home runs and 22 RBI and he had a 5.00 ERA in 9 innings on the mound. He appeared in six games for the San Jose Giants in 2002, although he didn't get a single at-bat - rather he was used as a pitcher and posted a 9.45 ERA.

Overall, he hit .258 with 29 home runs and 177 RBI in 409 minor league games.
