Biographical Information[edit]

Jason Hairston is the son of Johnny Hairston, brother of John Hairston Jr., grandson of Sam Hairston, nephew of Jerry Hairston and Sam Hairston Jr. and cousin of Jerry Hairston Jr. and Scott Hairston.

Jason was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 10th round of the 1994 amateur draft but did not sign. After college, he was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 16th round of the 1997 amateur draft. He hit .243/.345/.401 for the 1997 Danville Braves, with 6 home runs and 33 RBI in 52 games. He fielded just .850 in the outfield. In 1998, he put up a .240/.307/.453 line with 21 dingers and 136 whiffs for the Macon Braves while fielding only .841 in the outfield. He tied for 8th in the South Atlantic League in home runs. His poor defense and OBP skills were not enough to offset his power, though, and his career came to an end.
