Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Jamie Pogue played minor league ball for nearly a decade.
After hitting .270 with 5 home runs for the London Werewolves of the independent Frontier League in 1999, Pogue joined the St. Louis Cardinals organization the next year. He played three seasons in their system, reaching the AA level. In the 2001 Baseball World Cup, he hit .375/.476/.438 for Team Canada and threw out 3 of 6 who tried to steal; he outhit fellow catchers Justin Morneau and Chris Unrat. He led Canada in OBP; in addition to Morneau, he outperformed future big leaguers Jason Bay, Scott Thorman and Aaron Guiel. He later played several more years of independent league ball in the Atlantic League and concluded his playing career in 2008.
A year later, Pogue received a call to begin his coaching career as a bullpen catcher for Team USA in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. From 2009-2011 Pogue coached the Ontario Blue Jays, an elite team of 14-to-18-year-old Canadian players. Pogue moved into the professional coaching ranks in 2012 as a bullpen catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals. He soon took on the additional responsibilities of a catching coach and remained in this dual capacity with the Cardinals through the 2023 season. In 2024, he dropped the bullpen catcher duties and was listed as an Assistant Major League Coach and Bullpen Coach.
