Biographical Information[edit]

Jakub Grepl has played in the Extraliga and for the Czech national team.

In the 2014 U-15 Baseball World Cup, he hit .353/.450/.382 for the Czechs with 12 runs in 9 games, driving in eight and going 4-for-5 in steals. He lost to Italy as a pitcher but beat South Africa. Playing mostly short, he fielded .860. He tied for 8th in the event in runs. [1] During the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup, he was 2 for 13 with a walk and a RBI, with as many errors as hits. [2]

Grepl hit .277/.300/.426 for the Arrows Ostrava in the regular season of 2015, making his debut at age 15. He was 3 for 7 in the playoffs [3] In 2016, he batted .340/.395/.388 in the regular season and was 1 for 13 with a walk in the postseason. [4] Starting at second for the Czechs in the 2016 European Junior Championship, he was at .333/.520/.389 with 7 walks, 7 runs and 7 RBI in 6 games, tying for 7th in runs, tying for 3rd in RBI and tying for 4th in walks. In 2017, he hit .266/.328/.330 for Ostrava and .319/.405/.464 in the postseason. [6] He played left for the Czech team in the 2017 U-23 European Championship, producing at a .222/.462/.333 clip with 7 walks and 7 runs in 6 games. [7] He hit .471/.550/.657 with five runs and three doubles in five games for Ostrava in the 2018 CEB Cup. He tied Slobodan Gales for 5th in average, was 9th in OBP (between Tim Veraghtert and Florian Peyrichou), tied for 5th in hits, tied for the most doubles (with Kostiantyn Boiko, Danny Lankhorst and Stefan Koller), was second in times plunked (2, tied, 2 behind Mohamed Baoui) and tied for 4th in double plays turned (4). [8] In the Extraliga regular season, his batting line was .279/.340/.453 followed by .286/.378/.403 in the postseason as they won their first title. [9] In the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he hit .250/.379/.375, playing mostly first. [10]

The Ostrava native was 1 for 2 with a run in the 2019 European Champions Cup. [11] He hit .241/.313/.431 in '19 and slipped to .160/.222/.200 in the playoffs but the Arrows defended their title. [12] In 2020, he hit .406/.470/.725 with 22 runs and 24 RBI in 20 regular-season games. He made leaderboards for the first time - in homers (tied Marek Chlup for second with 5, 6 behind Matěj Menšík), RBI (2nd, one behind Menšík), hits (1st with 28, one ahead of Martin Mužík and Radim Novotný), runs (5th), total bases (50, 2nd, 11 behind Menšík), steals (7, tied for 7th) and extra-base hits (11, tied for 2nd with Mužík and Michael Vykoukal). In the postseason, he hit .234/.341/.312. [13]

Jakub batted .281/.351/.406 in 2021 and was 0 for 21 with three walks in the postseason but the Arrows won it all. [14] In the 2021 U23 European Championship, he hit .167/.167/.333 as the main right fielder for the Czechs. [15] During the 2021 U23 Baseball World Cup, he was 0 for 9 but with 5 walks, two runs and a RBI, moving to left. [16] He was with Ostrava for the 2021 European Champions Cup, but saw limited time (0 for 1, BB). [17]

Playing first for them in the 2022 European Champions Cup, he was 4 for 14 with two walks, two runs and a RBI while handling 33 putouts error-free. [18] He hit .290/.370/.435 in the Extraliga regular season and batted .364/.429/.509 in the postseason. [19] He was on the Czech roster for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but did not get into a game. They won a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first World Baseball Classic.
