Biographical Information[edit]
Jake Ratz played baseball at Ellsworth Community College for two years where he earned an associate's degree. He finished his college career at South Dakota State University, graduating in 2015 with a degree in Sports Management.
Ratz began his coaching career soon after graduation. He returned to Ellsworth as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2016-2017 seasons. Ratz spent the next two years as an assistant coach with the Southwestern Community College Spartans. The 2019-2020 season was a bit chaotic as Ratz split his time between two different programs. In fall 2019 he was an assistant coach with Iowa Western Community College. He left the Reivers in January 2020 to work as a volunteer assistant coach at Butler University. Ratz stayed at Butler for several months before returning to Iowa as an assistant coach with the Upper Iowa University Peacocks. He remained at Upper Iowa through 2022.
During these years Ratz was also busy coaching in summer collegiate leagues.

Ratz moved away from college coaching in 2023 when he joined the Baltimore Orioles organization as a hitting coach for the DSL Orioles Orange. He returned to the Orange squad in 2024.
