Brother of All-Star Hank[edit]

Jake Blalock was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 5th round of the 2002 amateur draft, four rounds after the Phillies took high school teammate Cole Hamels. He was signed by scout Darrell Conner and made his pro debut that summer.

Blalock was not quite the offensive terror that his brother, Texas Rangers third-baseman Hank Blalock, was in the Minor Leagues. Jake had a .266 batting average, with 7 HR's and 41 RBIs in 376 games in 2006 for the AA Frisco Rough Riders, and slugged .372. Also, he was hit by a pitch while playing for Frisco that year, suffering a broken nose. Once upon a time, he was thought to be a nice prospect by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Blalock was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts in his Italian debut on April 9, 2009. Playing left field and hitting cleanup for Reggio Emilia, he was shut down by Horacio Estrada and a reliever.
