Biographical Information[edit]
Itsuro Tanimura pitched for the Japanese national team a couple times.
Tanimura played for Mitsbushi Motors in the industrial leagues from 1997-2008. He represented Japan in the 2003 Baseball World Cup and excelled, going 2-0 with a save. In 9 2/3 innings, he allowed three hits, two walks, two hit batsmen and one unearned run while fanning eight. He finished among the tournament leaders in ERA (tied with Mario Peña, Jose Avalos and Kasey Olenberger for first), saves (tied for third, one behind Jairo Pineda and Kosuke Matsui) and wins (tied for 4th, one behind co-leaders Len Picota, Norge Vera and Rafael Medina). In the Bronze Medal game, he relieved Matsui with a 3-3 tie in the 5th and proceeded to toss 3 2/3 hitless, scoreless innings (1 BB and 1 HB) before Takahiko Nomaguchi wrapped up the 7-3 victory. Jon Cannon beat him out for All-Star LHP honors for the Cup. He helped Japan win a Gold Medal in the 2005 Asian Championship as well.
