Biographical Information[edit]

Ira Clifton has pitched for the German national team; his mother is German and he was given dual citizenship early in life. [1]

Clifton was 0-1 with two saves and a 5.17 ERA as a college freshman, allowed one run in 6 2/3 IP as a sophomore and was 4-0 but with a 7.40 ERA in 2022. He pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings in the 2022 U23 Baseball World Cup. [2] In '23, he was 1-0 with a 9.35 ERA at Erskine College.

He then suited up for Germany in the 2023 European Championship, making one appearance. With a 2-1 lead over Great Britain, two outs and two on, he relieved Duke Von Schamann. He walked Ray Mercer and got Jake Lambdin to fly out. After Germany took a 3-1 lead in the 7th, he hit Harry Ford and was yanked in favor of Sven Schüller. [3]

The right-hander was 1-0 with a save and a 4.44 ERA as a senior at Erskine. Signing with Germany's Mainz Athletics, he was 0-1 with two saves and a 7.20 ERA that summer. [4]
