Ray Mercer has been on the Great Britain national team.
Born in Puerto Rico, he grew up in the British Virgin Islands. He came to the US for high school. Batting .297 as a freshman at Polk State, he hit .290/.440/? with a team-high 61 runs and school-record 10 triples as a sophomore in 2023. [1] In the 2023 U23 European Championship, he was 2-for-14 with 3 walks, two runs and a RBI. [2]
He still made Britain's team for the 2023 European Championship and served as their starting center fielder. He debuted versus Sweden, batting 9th. Grounding out against Ben Johnson his first time up, he singled the next. A highlight was a three-run outing against Hungary. He was 0-for-3 in the Gold Medal Game loss to Spain as Britain matched their best finish in a European Championship. He hit .263/.391/.316 with two steals and six runs in their six games, handling nine putouts. Only Seattle Mariners prospect Harry Ford scored more times for them. [3]
Transferring to Tampa, he hit only .098/.250/.098 in 2024.
