Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Duke von Schamann was drafted in the 15th round of the 2012 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Texas Tech University. He played for three different professional teams that first season, putting up a combined mark of 6-4, 3.00 in 15 games while making it all the way to the AA Chattanooga Lookouts. He split 2013 between the Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Chattanooga, and had some more solid stats, with a record of11-7, 4.67 in 27 games.

On April 6, 2014, the Dodgers traded him to the Cleveland Indians in return for another Texas Tech graduate, major leaguer Colt Hynes. Duke had made one start for Chattanooga before the trade, then continued for another AA team, the Akron Aeros of the Eastern League, before finishing the season in AAA with the Columbus Clippers. Altogether, his record was 10-8, 4.16 in 27 games and 151 1/3 innings. He struck out only 72 batters, however, but walked only 36, and recorded his first professional save in one of his few appearances that did not come as a starter.

Duke is the son of former NFL kicker Uwe von Schamann, who was born in Germany but moved to the USA as a teenager.
