Biographical Information[edit]
Iori Yamasaki has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Yamasaki was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the second round of the 2020 NPB draft, but he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed his first season.[1] He was 5-5 with a 3.14 ERA in 2022, then he improved to 10-5 with a 2.72 ERA in 2023. Yamasaki was 5th in wins in the Central League in '23, tying Trevor Bauer, Masashi Itoh, Shoki Murakami and Yasuhiro Ogawa. He was selected into the 2024 NPB All-Star Game, and he relieved Hiroto Saiki in the 3rd inning of Game 1. Yamasaki retired Gregory Polanco and Kotaro Kurebayashi, allowed a double to Chusei Mannami then forced Yua Tamiya to ground out. He then gave up to hits to Daigo Kamikawabata and Hiromi Oka in the 4th inning, and he struck out Shun Mizutani to escape the jam. Katsuki Azuma replaced him. [2]
Yamasaki's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 96.3 mph, a forkball, cutter, shuuto, curveball and a slider.
