Biographical Information[edit]
In-chul Kim played in the KBO for 17 years.
Kim was signed by the Samsung Lions in 1990, and he only pitched 3 games in his first season. He recorded a 7.91 ERA in 16 games in 1991, then he went 8-7 with a 4.20 ERA in 1992. He led the league in walks that season. Kim missed the next season due to shoulder injury, then he had a 5.02 ERA in 13 appearances in 1994. His ERA was 4.91 in 21 relief outings in 1995, then he went 5-7 with a 4.01 ERA in 1996. He had a 3.44 ERA in 15 appearances in 1997, but he missed the next two seasons due to shoulder injury. The Lions then turned him into a batter after the 1999 season.
The Pohang native hit .218/.277/.379 with 3 homers in 2000, and he was 1-for-11 in 2001. The Lions then released him, and he signed with the Lotte Giants. The Giants traded him to the KIA Tigers for 20 million won on July 31, 2002, and he ended up hitting .235/.250/.373 with a homer. Kim played 37 games with a .230/.293/.324 batting line in 2003, but he went 0-for-5 in 2004 and he was released again. He then signed with the Hanwha Eagles, and he crushed 10 homers with a .275/.330/.450 batting line in 2005. Kim slumped to .227/.292/.261 in 2006, and he announced his retirement after hitting .204/.241/.301 in 2007. He was a scout for the Eagles from 2015 to 2017, and he became the coach of Cheongju High School in 2018.
Overall, Kim was 15-22 with a 4.56 ERA, struck out 182 and pitched 373 1/3 innings in 7 seasons in the KBO. He hit .238/.291/.366 with 162 hits and 18 homers as a batter.
