Ikki Shimamura played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Shimamura was drafted by the Orix BlueWave in the 3rd round of the 2003 NPB draft, and he spent his first four seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 36 at-bats with the big club. He hit .295/.342/.475 with 5 homers in 2008, and he set the NPB record by completing 9 putouts in a game as a second baseman on August 3. Shimamura had a .239/.268/.352 batting line in 2009, and he hit a grand slam against the Chunichi Dragons on June 14. Aaron Guiel also hit a grand slam, and that was the first time that two teams each recorded a grand slam in an interleague game. Shimamura went 11-for-48 in 2010, and he was traded to the Yokohama BayStars for Kentaro Kuwahara and Shingo Nonaka.
The Shimonoseki native hit .207/.207/.293 in 2011, and he announced his retirement after having a .175/.242/.193 batting line in 2012. He later became the minor league batting coach for the BayStars from 2014 to 2015, and he was the batting coach for the Dragons in 2016 and for their minors team in 2017. Shimamura returned to Yokohama as their minor league batting coach from 2018 to 2020 and from 2022 to 2024, and he coached their big club in 2021. Orix named him their hitting coach in 2025.
Overall, Shimamura hit .233/.270/.340 with 112 hits and 8 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
