Biographical Information[edit]

Hyun-seung Ryu played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 9 years.

Ryu played for South Korea in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, going 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA. He lost to champion Cuba and Lázaro Valle. The Ssangbangwool Raiders selected him in the second round of the 1994 KBO draft, and he went 4-6 with a 4.70 ERA in his first season. Ryu was 5-10 with a 4.85 ERA in 1995, and he was 9th in losses (tied with Jae-yeong Wee and Kang-chul Lee). He went 4-5 with a 4.14 ERA in 1996, but he then had a 9.64 ERA in 6 games in 1997. Ryu allowed 8 runs in 4 innings in 1998, then he had a 4-11 record with a 6.23 ERA in 42 games in 1999. Ryu was 6th in losses in '99, tied with Soo-kyung Kim, Hyeon-hee Kwak and Jung-hyun Park. He was 1-8 with a 5.96 ERA in 2000, then he was traded with Jae-joong Jang to the LG Twins for Jae-man Ahn. Ryu's ERA was 3.50 in 32 games in 2001, but he only pitched one game in 2002 then he retired.

Overall, Ryu was 19-43 with a 5.28 ERA, struck out 280 and pitched 566 1/3 innings in 9 seasons in the KBO.
