Biographical Information

Hugh Quattlebaum played in the minor leagues from 2000 to 2003 as a corner infielder after being drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 25th round of the 2000 amateur draft. In 2003, he played 3 games for the AAA Ottawa Lynx in the Baltimore Orioles system, but the rest of his career was in Class A.

He then went into coaching and consulting in Manhattan Beach, CA. In 2015, he was a volunteer assistant coach at West Los Angeles College. In 2018, he joined the Seattle Mariners as their Minor League Hitting Coordinator and stayed in that position for three years. In 2021 the New York Mets hired him as their Director of Hitting Development. He did not stay there long. When the Mets fired hitting coach Chili Davis and assistant hitting coach Tom Slater on May 3, 2021, the Mets replaced them with Quattlebaum and Kevin Howard respectively, for the remainder of the season. In 2022 Quattlebaum returned to his role as Director of Hitting Development. He moved to the Arizona Diamondbacks' chain as hitting coach of the ACL Diamondbacks Black in 2023. Quattlebaum continued his role as hitting coach for the ACL Diamondbacks in 2024 with added responsibilities as the D'Backs Assistant Director of Hitting.

In addition to his sports employment, he has also worked as a screenwriter. His brother Gus Quattlebaum has been a scout.
